Birmingham Development Company Limited and Build Ability Limited - Both in Administration

Mark Batten, Matthew Hammond and Peter Spratt were appointed Joint Administrators of Birmingham Development Company Limited (“BDC”) and Build Ability Limited (“BAL”) on 26 March 2010 by Lloyds TSB Plc.

BDC’s principal asset is The Cube development in Birmingham city centre.  The Cube is a Ken Shuttleworth designed substantial mixed-use development of approximately 500,000 sqr ft. which on completion should include residential, office, retail, restaurant and hotel space.

BAL is a subsidiary of BDC and is the building contractor responsible for the construction of The Cube.  BAL currently employs approximately 30 people, and has over 50 subcontractors involved in the construction process

Strategy

  • Shortly after appointment, the Joint Administrators together with BAL were successful in remobilising the project’s principal sub-contractors on site with a view to completing the development and thereby minimising any undue delay to the project.
  • The Joint Administrators currently intend to complete the development and market the vacant space and remaining residential flats for sale.

Employees - Key staff involved in the construction of The Cube have been retained and continue to demonstrate their support and enthusiasm to complete this landmark project. 

Subcontractors / suppliers - As discussed above, it is the current intention to complete the development.  We have formally communicated with all the key subcontractors and suppliers.  Should any subcontractors or suppliers have any queries regarding their supply of goods or services, they should communicate in the first instance through their usual channels with BAL or BDC as appropriate.
