When I met one of PwC's recruitment managers at an MBA networking event, I was surprised to discover how much more there was to the firm than simply tax and accountancy. I'd always wanted to be a consultant - but with a focus on the government and public sector, as this was my background. I learned about some of the projects that PwC was carrying out - across local and national government, as well as in education and the health service - it all sounded really interesting. Working here myself became an exciting prospect.

At first, I was nervous that I'd be like a fish out of water - but I needn't have worried; I was never left to fend for myself. There's a thorough induction programme that teaches you all you need to know to get started, and the systems training you're given is second to none. I was also appointed with a buddy and my own coach - so everything went smoothly right from the start.

One aspect of working here that's really valuable is the time I spend each month with my coach to focus purely on my career goals. When you're busy getting on with the job, it's easy to overlook the long-term picture, so it's brilliant that PwC regards it as important to take that time, to see how I'm doing against my objectives or to identify any help that I need. Of course, while the support is there, I'm ultimately responsible for my own development - so I also make time to visit our online learning and development portal, which allows you to book internal or external courses that link back into your objectives or your work. For me, it all underlines the fact that PwC offers you more than a job - they offer you a career.

One of my key roles at the moment involves data analysis - producing meaningful information that helps inform our clients' decision-making, improve their performance and add value to their organisations. I enjoy the start-to-finish feel of the process - going along with the senior consultants to see a client on-site, identifying their needs, helping to put workshops together, analysing the information that comes through and then presenting our findings back in a way that's easy for them to understand and act on.

I'm delighted with the positive, candid attitude of everyone I work with - we all share common values, such as working hard as a team and striving for excellence. Since I started with PwC, I've never once heard anyone say they can't do something - they're the sort of people who find a way to make things happen, and I feel privileged to be working with them.
