Every time you buy a packet of crisps, go to the cinema, download an app or get paid for your part-time job, some of your money gets paid to the government in tax. And it’s vital to the survival of schools, the NHS and a host of other public services.

But it’s not straightforward – there are complicated rules about how much we all need to pay depending on our situation, which can be difficult to understand and navigate. So imagine how complex it becomes, and how many different kinds of tax you’d have to think about if you were employing staff, making millions of pounds in profits or relocating to another country.

There are different teams within tax which you can join, and your training and professional qualification pathway will vary depending on where you're working. You can read more about the different teams in the 'What you'll do' section, but when you initially apply to us all you'll need to decide is whether to apply for a Corporate Compliance role or not.

Our Corporate Compliance roles involve study towards the ICAEW Certificate in Finance, Accounting and Business (CFAB) qualification (the first step towards qualifying as a chartered accountant) and require 280 UCAS points, whereas all other roles will involve study for an Association of Tax Technicians (ATT) qualification and require 240 UCAS points. Both are nationally recognised, government endorsed qualifications, but do read through the information below to select the right pathway for you.

There are many different teams in tax which you could join - the availability of different roles will vary depending on your location, so your recruiter will talk you through the options available to you following your assessment day. However, our Corporate Compliance roles include study towards the CFAB qualification rather than ATT, so you'd need to apply directly for these roles.

Corporate Compliance (Certificate in Finance, Accounting and Business - 280 UCAS) - helping organisations meet their tax obligations by ensuring they are compliant with tax legislation.

Corporate (Association of Tax Technicians - 240 UCAS) - helping organisations meet their tax obligations while managing the impact tax has on their businesses.

Human Resource Consulting (Association of Tax Technicians - 240 UCAS) - working on diverse projects across all sectors of the economy, providing vital support to clients on employment tax risk, employment cost reduction and employer social responsibility.

Indirect (Association of Tax Technicians - 240 UCAS) - advising businesses on VAT and other indirect taxes, including international trade issues linked to Customs and Excise Duties.

Private Client (Association of Tax Technicians - 240 UCAS) - advising growing companies, partnerships and wealthy individuals on their local and overseas tax affairs while acting as a strategic business consultant.

An analytical, investigative mind and a keen eye for detail. You must also be good at working with other people and building strong relationships.

  • 240 or 280 UCAS tariff points from up to three A Levels (excluding General Studies) or equivalent qualifications.

The exams must have been sat in the same academic year and we do not consider re-sits.

Please note that if you have a degree, you may find our graduate opportunities more appropriate. Having a degree does not lead to faster progression through this programme.
