Building better broadband coverage

The internet is the defining medium of our age. Recognising this, the UK Government believes that rapid rollout and adoption of broadband across the UK is important to both its social and economic objectives.

At the end of 2010 Government announced their plans to make sure the UK has the best broadband access in Europe, by ensuring that virtually every community in the country has access to a minimum broadband ISP download speed of 2Mbps by 2015, and by helping to roll-out of "super-fast" broadband into UK towns and villages where private sector investment alone cannot reach.

Our experts explain how Government intends to achieve these aims, what the key challenges are in implementing this and the role that market competition can play in supporting this.
