In our latest M&A update Stuart McKee and Sean Williams discuss emerging trends in the market and look at how these are affecting their clients and their sales processes.

Despite the fragmented debt markets, recent deal activity shows that some large private equity deals can still find capital available to them. John Lane from the corporate finance private equity team joins Stuart to share his recent experience advising on a £950m acquisition.

Trade buyers and international markets also continue to play important roles in getting deals done. We see corporates involved in the majority of our sales processes and over half of these are international corporates looking to achieve their growth strategies with M&A solutions. Darren Jukes, corporate finance partner, also shares his recent experience of working on a £750m international, corporate transaction and shares his views on the added complexity involved in dealing with cross border deals.

Whether a deal involves private equity or trade players, and particularly when there is an international party involved, the key to a successful sales process remains being focussed on the preparation phase right from the start.
