The transformation challenge facing the UK utilities sector in the coming years is immense. In order to meet the UK's predicted energy demand and hit carbon reduction targets, utility companies are embarking on huge and simultaneous programmes of work that will vastly increase the total energy generation capacity.
These changes require new skills and different ways of working. They come at a time when the sector already faces considerable workforce and skills challenges.
In May 2011, we brought together leading figures from the UK power sector, the education sector and industry specialists from within PwC to discuss the future workforce challenges facing the industry and possible priorities for how they can be addressed. This report gives a flavour of the main themes that emerged from the discussion.
