Power Deals 2012 outlook and 2011 review

Power Deals is our annual publication on the levels of deals activity in the power utilities sector globally. 2011 was one of the strongest years we’ve seen in the recent past but now European, including UK power and utility companies face capital expenditure and growth challenges.

The US market saw deal activity grow by over 100%, Europe shrank by about 40% on prior years thereby showing a shift in global activity between those major regions.

The market had a very strong first half of the year but with the European crisis, the second half was a much slower period for deal activity.

With the increased presence of Eastern investors in the marketplace the key consideration for corporates in the European market is:

  • Who can we be working with the future?
  • Who can support our plans for investment?
  • Who are the investors?
  • How do we get to know them?
  • How do we build relationships with them?
