In an independent survey of 1,000 UK adults undertaken on behalf of PricewaterhouseCoopers in April 2008 we asked questions about consumer confidence:

  • 53% of individuals felt they would have less money to spend in the coming months.
  • If the cost of living continued to rise, 78% said they would most likely to cut down on unnecessary purchases and live within their means.  8% said they would raid their savings to support their income and just 7% said they would use credit to maintain their standard of living.
  • 49% said they were likely to save less money than they were a year ago.  Only 23% thought they would save more.
