In July 2008 PwC hosted an event to stimulate debate about working with social enterprises.

PwC Chairman Ian Powell and Non-Executive Director Programme Chairman Philip Wright joined John Bird, founder of the Big Issue and Campbell Robb, Director of the Office of the Third Sector, and panellists from business, social enterprise and government.

Speaking in front of an audience of social entrepreneurs, non-executive directors from FT-SE 350 companies and people from PwC, the session explored:

  • What are the benefits and barriers to business working with social enterprises? Is it simply an extension of CSR programmes or something completely different?
  • How are social enterprises developing new ways to deliver public services and does government need to find new ways of engaging with social enterprises?
  • Is combining the passion of social entrepreneurs and the project management skills of large organisations a recipe for success or a cultural disaster?
