April 2006

Welcome to the Information Security Breaches Survey 2006, managed by PricewaterhouseCoopers on behalf of the UK Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). This survey of UK businesses, carried out every two years, is the UK's leading source of information on security incidents suffered by businesses, both large and small.

The survey results were launched by Alun Michael, MP, Minister of State, on 25th April 2006, and the results are available here. The 2006 survey findings were officially launched at the Infosecurity Europe exhibition.

In addition, four factsheets have been produced and are now available for download. The factsheets focus on various aspects of the results and good practice in information security, including Viruses and Malicious Software, Identity and Access Management, E-Mail and Web Usage and Trustworthy Networking.

We recommend that you visit the DTI site, for practical information security advice for businesses. To give you an insight into what is needed to move you and your organisation towards information security best practice, take the information security health check.

If you have any questions about the issues raised in this survey please let us know by sending us a message, or email us here.
