August 2007

In this edition of Watergroup News* we provide an overview of our presentation at the Institute of Economic Affairs’ Water 2007 Conference and summarise the key findings arising from our annual Global Utilities Survey.

Richard Porter, our UK Leader on Non-Financial Reporting and Assurance presented to Water 2007 on Delivering high quality reporting in the run up to PR09. We summarise in this edition the key messages from this presentation which covered the following topics: responding to Ofwat’s reporting and governance expectations, minimising risk through optimising internal governance and controls to deliver robust information and ensuring consistency and quality of information throughout the “reporting chain”.

Each year PricewaterhouseCoopers goes to the heart of boardroom thinking in utility companies across the globe. Our 2007 survey was again focused on power companies, but there are a number of themes that are relevant to the water sector. In particular, 2007 sees a utilities sector that appears much more ready to make the changes that arise from the threat of climate change. In Energy and efficiency: the changing power climate we report on a sea change in the sector’s thinking.

If you would like to discuss any of these issues the contact details of the team are included and we look forward to hearing from you.
