Ian Green
Office: Leeds
Ian has had extensive experience in undertaking business reviews, trading
receiverships, administrations and dealing with sales of business. He has
specialised more recently on situations where a high percentage of the business
value is made up of goodwill and leads our 'distressed M&A' product across
the UK.
Ian undertook an 18 month secondment with Barclays Corporate Support North
during 1996/97.
Highlights of Ian's recent experience include:
- Ian led our work on AIM listed Lady in Leisure Plc, a Newcastle based
leisure club business. Ian's work in identifying options for the troubled
company, working to identify interested parties and dealing with sale
negotiations meant a sale of the majority of clubs on a going concern basis to
be completed within 12 weeks of our initial involvement, and within 1 day of
the business being placed into Administration. A going concern sale meant that
returns for creditors were far in excess of the business' break-up value and
that no negative PR was generated for lenders.
- The business review and then disposal of a distressed chilled food
manufacturer with borrowings of £15m in a multi-lender situation. Ian's wide
experience with distressed disposals combined with access to
PricewaterhouseCoopers' internal and external network of contacts facilitated a
sale of the business within 10 weeks of our first involvement. A quick sale
meant the primary lender and was repaid in full and other institutions and
shareholders gained a substantial and unexpected payout.
- The review, receivership and pre-packaged sale of Woodcock Travel, an £80m
turnover independent travel chain with 40 retail outlets, a business travel
arm, and a freight forwarding subsidiary. Ian's business sale experience
ensured a sale was completed on the day of appointment ensuring a seamless
transfer of the business to new owners with the majority of employees retaining
their jobs.
- Managed the pre-insolvency advisory work with management and negotiation of
sale contracts with a plc purchaser prior to the receivership of high street
retailer, Musefield Ltd. Ian's experience in pre-receivership negotiation and
utlisation of our network of contacts and clients ensured the best price for
the business was obtained within the time available and enabled the bank to be
re-paid in full.
