Shaping up for telehealth

With the results of the Government’s Whole System Demonstrator (WSD) project due in December 2011, there are signs that the market for telehealth is at last set to take off.

The WSD is the world’s largest ever randomised control trial of telehealth and telecare, the results of which could prove crucial in bringing about the wider adoption of new technologies and services across the health and social care sectors.

Telehealth has the potential to fundamentally change and improve the way people with long-term conditions are cared for. The results from the WSD need to demonstrate better care outcomes, better cost efficiency and a better patient experience from telehealth to really enable wider adoption.
