Oil and Gas Global Deals Q2 2011

Mid market growth but ‘Mega Deals’ quiet

There were 200 deals globally in the oil and gas industry in Q2 2011, up 23% on activity in the previous quarter, although the impact of lower average deal sizes led to a significant drop-off in total deal value to $47.3bn in Q2, from $94.3bn in Q1.

While Q2 was relatively quiet at the top end of the market, the significant growth seen in mid-market M&A volumes and deal values is symptomatic of strong confidence levels in the sector. Barring macro shocks, we anticipate further M&A growth in 2011/12.
