PwC in the Community

PwC in the community

The wider PwC in the Community programme in the UK has been running for over two decades and aims to promote the social inclusion of those in the communities where we have an office presence. During 2011, over 42,000 working hours was donated by 4,865 of our staff across the country to a wide range of activities which focussed on education, employability and the environment. Our total community contribution - including cash, time and in-kind support - amounted to £8.1m.

Making props for Babes in the Wood

Our PwC in the Community volunteers are integral to making the show happen, both on stage, backstage, front of house, in hospitals and in workshops. From summer onwards, the Community Affairs teams lay the groundwork for a busy year of activities with schools and charities. These include various community workshops, work experience placements and visits: making Robin Hood hats for the PwC Pantomime production of Babes in the Wood, for example, or leading props workshops to prepare bunting and decoration for the stage itself. For the PwC Pantomime production of Sleeping Beauty, 12 volunteers helped two schools build props for the show, whilst another 8 volunteers helped children from a North London school make pantomime puppets to put on their own show.

For 2010, the PwC Pantomime Production team launched the "It's About the Kids" pilot project, through which members of the PwC Pantomime company coached 9 promising students from St. Clement Danes School in theatre, dance and music during the year, resulting in them taking to the stage of the Peacock Theatre themselves to entertain the cast and company of the 2010 show. We aim to continue using such initiatives to strengthen bonds between the firm and its community.
