Barry specialises in carrying out strategic and financial business reviews and advising on associated restructuring - disposals, acquisitions and/or refinancing. More recently he has led the PwC team providing credit advisory services to companies and pension scheme trustees dealing with deficits in defined benefit pension schemes.

He transferred to Business Recovery Services after nearly 15 years as a corporate financier, where he focussed on M&A and raising finance, and now uses that experience to provide stakeholders with innovative, value creating solutions. He has particular knowledge of the telecom sector, having led BT plc's internal corporate finance team.

Highlights of Barry's recent experience include:

  • Lead adviser to Heath Lambert (an insurance broker) during its successful restructuring. This involved one of the first transactions which actively involved the Pensions Regulator and the Pension Protection Fund.

  • Advised on the successful sale of a listed media business to a private equity backed venture.

  • Member of the team that advised the Pensions Regulator on the practical implications of Clearance Procedures and Notifiable Events.

  • Advised a UK manufacturer on the implications of its pension scheme on its proposed sale to an overseas acquirer and obtained clearance of the transaction.

  • Advised a range of pension scheme trustees on how to deal with the implications of transactions and/or scheme funding issues by reference to the strength of the employers' covenant.
