Ian is a Chartered Accountant and a licensed Insolvency Practitioner who has worked with financially troubled organisations for the past 22 years, supporting them to become sustainable where possible. Conscious of the personal stresses and emotions that financial distress can cause to all concerned, Ian is both sensitive and professional in his approach and works hard to ensure that the process is as smooth and as pain-free as possible.

Ian has specialised in particular in the travel/tourism and charity/not-for-profit sectors, helping organisations and other stakeholders in these sectors over many years.

Highlights of Ian's recent experience include:

  • Providing advice and support to travel agents and tour operators looking to meet their regulatory and financial/bonding requirements
  • Acting as Administrator/Liquidator to The Globespan Group plc, a major Scottish airline and Goldtrail Travel Limited and Holidays 4 UK Limited, two of the most recent travel failures. Ian’s knowledge of the sector and its regulators ensured a smooth process for customers and creditors
  • The administration of the two lottery funded arts venues, working closely with the funding bodies to achieve a solution.
  • Assisting a number of insolvent charities to reschedule their creditors in order to allow a breathing space for their financial affairs to be restructured and creditors ultimately to be paid in full.
  • Providing advice to charity Trustees and Senior Management on issues such as risk assessment, reserves planning, strategy, collaboration and merger

Principal recent industry sector experience

  • Charities - Ian is a member of the Committee of the ICAEW Charities and Voluntary Sector Special Interest Group and a regular writer and speaker on charity sustainability
