Mark Hughes

Mark is a Partner in the Strategy team, focussing on strategy and transactions in electricity, gas and water & energy, technology and renewables. During his 21 years with the firm, his extensive experience includes strategic and market analysis, valuation, trading and contracting, regulation and performance benchmarking, privatisation and methodology for auctioning commodities or access to capacity. He is Editor of the firm’s Industry Thought Leadership publications Global Power Deals and Renewable Deals.

Recently, Mark has advised UK & Alberta governments on carbon capture and storage, ENERG on finance raising for its engineering waste to energy business, and Renewable Energy Systems on the value of its business for a performance management and reward purposes.  

Other notable projects include advising Drax on structuring and financing its 300 MW biomass energy plans and the billion Euro structuring and financing of Kosovo’s lignite power plants.

Prior to his time with the firm, Mark spent 10 years in central government culminating in HM Treasury.  He was involved with the privatisation of BAA, was an advisor on DTI Industry Support Programmes, and was economic advisor on Channel Fixed Link (selection of winning consortium).

He is an Affiliate of the ICAEW, and an Executive Committee member of British Energy Association.
