What's in store? - Trends in pre-Christmas retail trading

With consumer confidence low and the economic recovery slow we look at what consumers are buying up to Christmas and what tactics retailers are using to win their custom.

After difficult trading in both 2008 and 2009 the same period this year is set to be a fascinating snapshot.  In the last few months we have been using a number of different methods to measure how consumers are behaving in the shadow of the Spending Review.

We followed prices on a number of items since September and assessed which retail channels and products are likely to do well and which consumers are tightening their belts further.
