This is a crucial year for climate change. We will look back in the years to come and assess whether the negotiations that took place in Copenhagen were bold enough, and whether the international leaders of the time responded in a way that meant climate change actions were sufficient to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
I hope to see real leadership in action. Leadership in seeking a way to achieve the deep cuts needed in carbon emissions, and in bringing about a new way in which growth is considered. Growth has to take account of business performance more holistically, rather than single issue focus on just financial returns. The recent financial instability has shown us that we need environmental stability also; no government can bail this out!
