"Whatever is agreed by the politicians in Copenhagen will have to be implemented by business.  I will be in Copenhagen to connect with the business community, who will be anxious to discuss and understand the implications of any deal that emerges."

About Jonathan:

Jonathan first started attending the UN climate meetings in the lead up to Kyoto in 1997.  As part of PwC's Sustainability and Climate Change team he now provides advice on carbon markets and climate policy.

Jonathan on Copenhagen:

All climate summits are a success and COP15 will be no different.  Although we won't see the comprehensive legal deal - a son of Kyoto - that was implied in Bali, two things are particularly encouraging.

Firstly, major developing countries including China and Brazil have pledged to take action now.  Secondly, more and more heads of state are agreeing to participate at the Summit.

I think there will be a political deal which includes targets for developed countries and some developing countries, financing for adaptation and technology transfer and some agreement on forests.  Strong underpinning of the carbon markets is important for business, but this seems unlikely now.

Whatever happens, the politicians will emerge bleary-eyed on the morning of Saturday 19 December and declare that the deal is a great step forward for the global environment.
