What's generating deals in the technology sector?

January 2011

Deal activity in the technology sector showed strong signs of recovery in 2010 with a significant rise in the value of completed global technology deals - €76bn, up from €37bn in 2009.

Deal volumes also showed signs of recovery from the lows of 2008/09, with a noteable rise in mega-deal activity and transformational deals being back on the corporate agenda.

Deal dynamics are changing into 2011. A flurry of acquisition activity from the sector’s largest corporate players is underlining the importance of sector hot spots like financial technology, and cloud and mobile applications.

A combination of cash-rich trade buyers, private equity sponsors with funds to invest and improving finance liquidity is opening up opportunities for M&A activity in 2011.
