Working with purpose

We believe we can make the biggest impact when our purpose is embedded into everything we do. This builds on our original role in helping the capital markets to function, and also equips us to help clients with some of the big societal issues they face.

The work we do for clients

As a professional services provider, we’re uniquely placed to help organisations around the world to reduce risk, seize opportunities, and to become more ‘sustainable’, through the many services we provide every day.

So, we invest in know-how that will help transform the way organisations operate, bringing to market new ideas, practices and technologies that can help address the social and environmental issues inherent in the megatrends.

We address big issues from the future of pensions to cyber security to the Sustainable Development Goals. In a digital world, our purpose also guides the work we do to ensure that we use technology responsibly - to solve problems, rather than to ‘hard-wire’ them.

With a global network of 700 people and a team of more than 100 specialists in the UK, we’re also a leading advisor on sustainability and climate change.

Our perspectives on the future

Working with purpose also means using our research and thought capital to explore and share our perspectives on the future world of work, anticipating and raising awareness of important problems where business can play a positive role, fostering inclusive growth and shaping an agenda that helps to deliver sustainable development.

Thanks to our considerable convening power, we’re able to bring together people with different perspectives to think about some of the big issues that society is facing, while also informing our own understanding of how to drive longer-term positive change.

This applies to our core services too. We’ve long supported measures to improve tax transparency and maintain an effective fiscal system, and our Paying for tomorrow campaign looks at big questions about the UK tax system. Our audit practice is a vital part of our business and continues to play a key role in maintaining trust in capital markets. Given public interest in whether audit is meeting society's expectations, we’re also engaging with the public to understand different views on what the future of audit should be.

We contribute to important policy-related debates and invest in responding to public government consultations on a variety of topics, and contribute our expertise to many external forums and groups that aim to address important problems, such as the Task Force for Climate-related Financial Disclosure, the Natural Capital Coalition, the Climate Disclosure Standards Board, and WBCSD, to name a few.
