I’ve been with PwC Augment for 3 months. My social circle were fairly surprised to hear about my new role when I first joined as my educational background has little relation to the work I do on a daily basis, although it’s never been a hindrance for me – quite the opposite!
I graduated from Queen’s University, Belfast with a BA in English and although I was originally looking to go into teaching, I ended up applying to PwC Augment because the opportunities were so appealing and I knew the skills I learnt outside of my degree were easily transferrable.
Being a Client Executive means I get to regularly communicate with a wide range of impressive clients. Since joining the team I’ve been given the opportunity to work with a leading investment management firm, conducting in-depth qualitative and quantitative financial research to support their risk management strategy.
My English degree background from Queen’s University Belfast, has enabled me to gain many transferrable skills that prepared me to easily integrate into a company such as PwC. The training we receive has been second-to-none and I’ve even been able to bring new ideas to the team coming from a humanities background. Our team is really diverse too, some of my colleagues have degrees in History and Politics so I’ve never felt intimidated or left out.
From day one I felt continually supported and encouraged. Not only this, but I felt immediately at ease. There are plenty of social events here in Belfast and our team are really close. Our office is also right near the town centre so we regularly attend quiz nights and “first Friday” drinks at The Hilton down the road. If we choose to stay in the office for lunch we can walk around and enjoy the Pop Art on display or sit in our grassed quad.
I’d really encourage people from all backgrounds to consider a career with PwC Augment as it’s opened up so many opportunities for me. Before joining, I’d have never thought within a few months I’d be familiar with financial markets and all the terminology that comes along with it. We’re supported and developed outside of our direct role too – PwC have offered me plenty of training and even offered to support me with my exams and revision material.
