I have had a variety of different roles since joining PwC, from Technical Oracle and Workday Application Development to Project and Test Management. All my roles have been on projects implementing financial systems, most being part of large financial transformation programmes. The last two years I have focused on the cloud based technology Workday moving away from the Oracle Technology.
Everyday is different, with new challenges. I get the opportunity to work and develop my knowledge and skills on leading cloud technologies. I work with great people who share the same enthusiasm for the products. My biggest challenge is maintaining a work life balance.
The end of a project can often involve long hours and pressure to get solutions across the line for our clients. During these times I've found my colleagues incredibly supportive and understanding. On the flip side you’ll then get down time once a project has gone live, which can be used to catch up on internal work and complete self development. PwC have some amazing opportunities and resources for self development and throughout the year there is always time to leverage that.
The beauty of working within technology at PwC is the ability to work remotely on the applications I’m developing. I utilise tools that support remote working such as google-meet and skype to stay connected to my colleagues and clients, which helps me gain a better work life balance. I currently work two days a week from home which allows me to spend more time with family while getting the job done. PwC as an employer hugely support remote and flexible working, something I feel fortunate to be a part of.
That there is no limit to the opportunity to develop and gain experience. I always knew PwC was a huge company but I didn’t realise just how many different areas they were involved in (and market leading in). If you have an interest in something and want to get involved, PwC is an excellent platform to do that and drive your career.
Gaining my Workday Financials Certification in 2017 - I am 1 of 15 people in the UK to currently hold the certification.
Technology will only become more predominant for PwC and our clients in the future. I personally work directly with technologies which deliver the latest in financial analytics to businesses. I see first hand how the continued investment from PwC in this area is fundamental for us to offer our clients the products and implementation skills allowing them to drive value through efficiencies and provide them with real time data to make informed decisions.
