How did you join PwC? Tech Degree Programme

Tell us about your role or programme

I’m a PwC apprentice, and I’ve learnt so much about how to work within a business after only being here for three months. PwC allows students like myself to explore how we can use Computer Science in the real world.

What do you enjoy most?

Personally, I enjoy helping out at PwC events the most. Over the last couple of months, I’ve volunteered to help at two events, where we met Year 12 and Year 13 students, informing them about the programme. I find this enriching as I was one of those students only a few years ago, and so being able to talk to them about my experiences on the programme is always fun.

What's your biggest challenge?

Personally, I would say that the biggest challenge is managing all of the different aspects surrounding the degree. Time management is something that I’ve had to learn very quickly in the last couple of months, as there’s always work or research you could do to further your knowledge about the degree.

What have you achieved at PwC or on your programme that you are most proud of?

So far at PwC, I would say my biggest accomplishment is learning all about the company and being proactive with new opportunities. I’ve volunteered for a few events with the company, and because of how much I enjoyed them I’m planning on applying for more this term. I’m proud of this as I never thought I would get onto this degree apprenticeship, and as I’ve now done so, I want to let others know that they can do the same too.

What do you think the future holds for you?

After finishing my four-year degree, I’m planning on working for PwC within one of their UK offices. This would be ideal for me because I would be able to stay in a city close to me that I know whilst also having the opportunity to travel from city to city when carrying out client work. This was a big benefit of studying Computer Science with PwC, as it means I’m not constrained to my desk and I can be more social within my role at the company.

What has been your biggest surprise about a career at PwC?

The biggest surprise is most likely how much the company involves us in all of the different aspects related to our degree. Every week we have a discussion with someone from PwC who tells us about their role within the company and provides an insight into the different tasks and work they’re doing. I find this really interesting as it helps us decide what we want to do during our 10-week summer placement, and also what we potentially want to do in the future.
