Audit

It’s an exciting time to join us. The passion of our people, combined with access to the latest technology, helps us deliver the highest quality audits and build trust in society. We pride ourselves on our global reputation as a trusted place to do business, whilst giving our people access to the best opportunities and lots of variety through your home team, internal secondments and international assignments.

Audit is about so much more than number crunching. You’ll get the opportunity to work with clients in a range of different industries; projects can range from calculating the value of a football player through to checking how much stock a fashion company has in their warehouse. We help clients make sure they’re sustainable and environmentally friendly, provide business advice to help them achieve their goals, and focus on the total contribution of organisations to their customers, people, suppliers, community and the wider economy. There’s never been a more exciting time to join the profession.

When you work in our Audit practice, you will discover that we have a range of different teams, including some of the following:

External Audit
Our External Audit teams work with a variety of clients and industries. In this team, you'll be hands-on straight away, working at client sites or virtually from one of our PwC offices. You’ll need to be a people person, determined and enjoy problem solving. You’ll interview key contacts such as financial controllers or finance directors, check that data is accurate and highlight and question any differences. It's investigative work where you’ll regularly speak with clients, using in-person meetings or leading-edge collaborative technology.

As finance is at the centre of every organisation, you’ll learn about how businesses operate. You could be looking through records or putting together reports on everything from suppliers to bank records and from company cars to personnel. Above all your work is client focused, which can mean travelling to client sites and will involve working to deadlines, which often requires working longer hours to meet the needs of the client. It’s hard work but rewarding. You'll also be studying towards your Chartered Accountancy qualification, in addition to benefiting from a training programme created by our learning and development specialists. What you get out of it is the opportunity to build the skills and experience that can open many doors to you, taking your career in whatever direction you choose.
Government and Public Sector
On our External Audit programme, you’ll have the opportunity to work with a variety of clients and industries. If you spend time in the Public Sector team, you’ll be part of a forward-thinking team, helping our clients rise to the challenge of the current economy, and make a real difference to the public services that affect our daily lives. They support all of us to varying degrees on an ongoing basis, for example they make sure we're educated, provide ongoing health and social care support, provide housing and benefits to those in need, collect our waste, control development in our local areas and make sure we all have access to parks, open spaces and leisure facilities. Nowhere else is there such a diverse range of activities delivered by a single organisation. And given the pressure on local authority budgets, they are looking not just for methods of reducing costs, but for ways to transform the way they provide basic services to the public.

Our clients include Central Government, Local Government, Housing, Health, Charities and Education bodies, and many of these are large and complicated organisations Often they benefit from the broad range of audit services we provide. We have helped some of the largest government departments find solutions to some of their most complex problems. It's challenging work, receiving the highest public scrutiny, and hugely rewarding.
