In an increasingly complex, fragmented business environment, risks and issues can emerge from an ever broader set of sources and Environmental Social and Governance (ESG) is an especially challenging area. Action can be as risky as inaction with ESG commitments much easier to make than to deliver on. In ESG Risk our goal is to help clients identify, understand and manage their ESG risks, pivot those risks into opportunity and do ‘good business’ creating value that is both profitable and responsible.
Being a trusted organisation is about being true to your purpose and meeting the expectations of all of your stakeholders. That means being both commercial and responsible. We understand the challenges and risks associated with striking this balance and can help clients avoid success in one area being achieved at the expense of the other. That’s what we refer to as ‘Good Business’. We have the breadth and depth to help organisations manage risk, engender trust and pivot risk into opportunity. We support them holistically to create value that is both profitable and sustainable.
Our goal is to help clients manage their ESG risks and turn them into opportunities, supported by a team of specialists with deep expertise across the whole ESG landscape. We have focused our services on six core areas of risk:
You will work on a range of projects, both internal and external. This includes the review and implementation of client’s business processes in relation to operations, regulatory reporting requirements and commercial growth to address ESG issues and identify where clients can have the greatest impact on wider society. Whatever tasks you take on, you will have the opportunity to both showcase and develop your skills, whilst learning more about the team and what we do. You will also contribute to the development and delivery of the wider ESG proposition for the Risk line of service within PwC UK.
The culture of ESG Risk is people-centric; there is a great focus on leveraging what makes the individual unique in order to get the most out of everyone’s talents.
Everyone is encouraged to be open and inventive, which makes our Associates feel comfortable and respected when voicing ideas. There’s a strong emphasis on mentoring to ensure you have the support to grow and develop consistently throughout your career.
We aim to give you a breadth of experience across a range of different public and private sector clients. Your individual interests and abilities are carefully considered at all times, so you can be sure you'll work in teams where you can contribute your best and develop your skills at every turn. There’s a high degree of flexibility across the work we do and you’ll be given the freedom to take on new tasks to challenge yourself. Within your first few months, if you feel comfortable, you’ll be given the opportunity to coordinate and lead meetings, representing the firm and your team.
As part of the ESG Risk pathway, you’ll help clients to tackle issues which are important from an environmental, social and commercial perspective. You will learn how to identify and support clients to manage risks, how to use technology to do so more effectively, and build your knowledge of ESG topics.
Alongside our internal training curriculum, you’ll gain a blend of commercial, technical, financial and data experiences working with iconic clients from either Financial Services or Commercial & Government industry sectors. In some teams you may get the opportunity to specialise in an industry from early in your career, however most of our joiners will work across multiple sectors from the beginning.
You’ll quickly develop your communication skills and business acumen through interaction with a wide range of stakeholders at client sites, where you’ll be sharing results of your work and recommendations.
Whilst you won’t study for a professional qualification on entry, any qualifications or accreditations that are relevant to your ongoing career development will be considered throughout your career at PwC (e.g.CFA UK Level 4 Certificate in ESG investing if relevant).
Our ESG Risk business is growing quickly. That’s down to a number of factors that mean it’s not only an exciting place to work now but going forward too. The first is our team - it’s made up of specialists who are passionate and curious and who continue to innovate, developing new services and technologies to support our clients. ESG is also now firmly on the board agenda and the breadth of ESG challenges and risks they face requires an increasingly wide range of expertise. This, in turn, creates opportunities for us to support clients on a variety of interesting and rewarding projects where you can broaden your skills, build a rewarding career and help us achieve our ambition to treble the size of the business in three years.
