Undergraduate work placements

Working alongside graduate trainees and experienced professionals, you’ll learn about our business and get exposure to a prestigious client list. You’ll benefit from extensive training and will gain a unique insight into working life at PwC.

These 11-month placements are for students who need to complete a placement as part of their degree. Depending on the business area you join, you could sit a selection of professional accounting exams.

Part-qualify on placement and you could be offered a promotion upon graduation. If your business area doesn’t carry a professional qualification not to worry - do well on your placement and you could also be offered a position to re-join us on our graduate scheme. It doesn't matter what degree course you're studying, but you must have a good academic record and be able to show how you've used your initiative and team-working skills.

You should also have thoroughly researched the area of PwC you’re applying to and any associated qualification that's involved. On the work placement you’ll get a comprehensive feel for the challenges of professional services, work with distinguished clients and benefitting from superb learning and development opportunities. Our 11-month work placements start in September and are available at offices across the UK.

Get ahead on the professional qualification front

Hopefully your placement will be the first step towards a graduate career with us. In some business areas, you may even be able to start working for your professional qualifications during the programme, returning to complete your exams once you've graduated. For example, if you do an 11-month work placement in an area offering ICAEW training, you can study for some of your professional exams. We’ll support you through these, and your exam passes in your placement year will give you a real head start when it comes to qualifying as a Chartered Accountant.

Real responsibility

You'll do the same work, and benefit from the same training, as our first-year graduate recruits, contributing to a range of client projects as part of a highly skilled team. As you’d expect from a business of this scale, the work can be intense at times – but you’ll have plenty of fun along the way, not forgetting competitive rewards for your hard work.

Experiencing life inside one of the world's largest professional services organisations is a fantastic way to build your commercial awareness and interpersonal skills. Nothing can beat on-the-job experience for personal development; and you’ll get plenty of it, both within PwC and on-site with our clients. In addition to our core training modules, we’ll also steer you towards appropriate courses if there's anything you feel you'd like to work on.

What’s more, you’ll boost your ability to soak up complex business information, and establish your own professional confidence – factors that will make a real difference to your last year at university.

We use technical and business knowledge to solve our clients’ problems. Because we offer so many different technology services we need people with different experiences to help us deliver them effectively. Maybe you’re studying a Technology or IT-related subject and you know your Hadoop from your R and your Cloud from your Hana. Or maybe you’re studying an Arts, Humanities, Science, Engineering or Maths subject. We’ll teach you the technical things you need to know. You just need to have a passion for technology and be willing to contribute early on. No matter what your degree subject, we’re looking for people who are excited about harnessing opportunities presented by emerging technologies and influencing business. And doing that in a world that’s changing at an incredible rate.

Technology on a large scale
Our size means we have partnerships with SAP, Oracle, Salesforce, Microsoft, Google and other leading technologies. It also means our infrastructure is amazing, with few legacy systems to hold us back. People here get to work with the biggest names in any sector and the work itself can be front page news. We’re often the first to use new ideas or approaches – either our own, or something that’s been developed by a third party which they approach us to help deploy. In smaller tech companies you might hit a career ceiling. But not here. There’s always opportunity to rise in the fastest growing part of our business.

Working at the forefront of emerging technologies
From Artificial Intelligence to Augmented Reality, Blockchain to Drones, Robots to the Internet of Things, and 3D Printing to Virtual Reality, we’re on top of the megatrends. New technologies are emerging all the time, and we’re helping our clients to explore how they can harness and use them to their organisations’ advantage. That requires an entrepreneurial attitude, so we do things first and ask permission later. For example, we’ve just opened a ‘drone centre’ in Poland, to find out how this technology can benefit our clients. We have purpose in what we do and edge in how we approach it. We created the Hive in our Belfast office. A dedicated space for imagining, creating, exploring and delivering digital transformation. It includes our first ‘Innovation Lab’ in Europe – a specialist hub to bring together the best talent from around our global network to tackle our clients’ biggest business challenges.

Forensic Technology - we develop and utilise cutting-edge technology to help our clients in times of crisis, to understand past challenges and prevent future ones. When disputes or regulatory investigations arise, a timely resolution relies on organisations being prepared. If you have an inquisitive mind-set and a passion for technology, then our Forensic Data Analytics, and eDiscovery and Forensic Computing roles are right for you.

Technology Risk - Managing Technology Risk and establishing confidence and integrity is vital in business, especially in the digital world, as you’re no longer able to see who you’re liaising with.We predominantly focus on assurance and consulting engagements supporting clients in the areas of IT Risk. This includes IT governance, business continuity, disaster recovery, and information security. You’ll be working across all industry sectors, with client opportunities across the UK either delivering IT assurance as part of the year-end financial audit or providing advice to clients on managing IT risks.

Technology Consulting - In the Technology Consulting team you’ll work across all industry sectors, delivering projects from strategy through to implementation. Technology is at the heart of business and is often a key driver and enabler of change. We work with many clients to define their vision and to plan how to get there. By joining us in Technology Consulting you’ll help build a lasting legacy of improvement and performance, working with leading technologies such as Google for Work, Oracle, Blockchain, SAP and MS Dynamics.
