Ian is a Partner with 25 years management consulting experience in the areas of strategy and policy, corporate finance and program implementation.

An economist by training, Ian spent much of his early career in policy analysis and risk management, working extensively in emerging markets. He then spent eight years in PwC Corporate Finance to form a dedicated carbon markets group, executing transactions with a total value of around $200Mn.

Between 2010 and 2013, Ian was based in Washington, DC where he built PwC’s US Sustainability team, establishing capability in key regional markets. Since returning to London, Ian holds client, sector and technical responsibilities. He advises ExCo’s and Boards across Net Zero strategy and business transformation and Govt’s on the design and delivery of climate finance initiatives.

  • Global Aerospace/Defence Business - Net Zero (NZ) strategy and implementation plan (2+ years, ongoing). Presentations to ExCo’s and full Board.
  • Global Energy Technology Company - NZ strategy design and implementation (3+ years, ongoing). Work included development of decarb pathways, evaluation of carbon pricing exposure and detailed analytics for Scope 3 target setting.
  • Global Cement Producer - detailed analysis of carbon pricing scenarios and implications for EBITDA impact on cement industry products.
  • Global Commodities Trader - detailed market sentiment around carbon offsets as a component of NZ strategy including views on pricing and market segmentation.

Public sector clients

  • Climate Finance Accelerator, UK-DESNZ: PwC has been at the heart of the Climate Finance Accelerator (CFA) initiative since 2017. Ian is now leading the £12m, four-year initiative, to roll-out the CFA concept in a selection of MICs with first-wave countries including Nigeria, South Africa, Mexico and Peru.
  • Accreditation Readiness Support Programme, Green Climate Fund: Ian has led PwC’s work with the GCF since its inception, supporting institutions to align with the Fund’s fiduciary standards and environmental and social safeguards. To date, we have advised around 35 entities worldwide; many are now accredited.
