James is a director and solicitor in the Private Client team at PwC. He is an international trust, tax and estate planning expert who advises individuals, trustees and financial institutions. He also advises in relation to charity and philanthropy and art collections. He advises clients from around the world with particular experience advising clients from the US, Middle East, Russia & CIS and Africa. He frequently advises on matters involving trustees or banks in Switzerland and the Channel Islands and other offshore jurisdictions.
Prior to joining PwC, James was Head of Private Client at Collyer Bristow, having previously worked at Macfarlanes, where was ranked by Legal 500 as a recommended trusts lawyer. He is also named as a leading individual in Chambers & Partners HNW where he was described as “technically excellent” and “very measured and resourceful, a really, really good solution finder”.
He is experienced in designing trust structures, drafting trust documents and advising trustees on their duties for both private and charitable trusts. He has considerable knowledge and familiarity in relation to different international trust and foundation regimes.
James advises financial institutions on features of different trust law regimes in relation to services offered to their clients, particularly from a governance, risk and liability point of view. He has extensive experience carrying out risk analysis and remedial action in relation to private trusts, from the point of view of trustees, investors in trust companies and beneficiaries of trusts.
