John is a senior pensions actuary with over 20 years' industry experience and is PwC’s national lead on defined benefit (DB) pension plan funding and transformation. He has a wealth of experience gained from advising on employee benefit issues, including:

  • helping numerous corporate clients negotiate funding agreements with pension plan trustees, including implementing innovative funding solutions to avoid trapped surplus;
  • advising corporates and trustees on long-term funding and pension plan end-game strategies, including insurance transactions and plan wind-ups;
  • working as part of the senior team that advised on the first longevity swaps completed by a UK based pension plan;
  • designing and implementing programmes to accelerate pension plan funding levels towards their long-term targets; and
  • supporting clients through pension plan change exercises, for example, plan closures and redesign.

In addition to these projects, John has prior experience of working as a Scheme Actuary and advising trustees on funding and investment issues. He is also a member of the Institute of Actuaries Pensions Board.
