Richard is a solicitor in the UK Data Protection, Strategy, Legal and Compliance team at PwC. He qualified in March 2018.
He provides practical data protection advice to clients, having honed his skills as in-house counsel on two long term secondments (a global payments service provider and a global commercial real estate services and investment firm).
In these roles he advised on the full suite of business as usual activities (e.g undertaking contractual reviews, conducting data protection impact assessments, responding to data subject requests, drafting policies, notices and procedures etc.), as well advising on complex technical matters (e.g. in relation to cookie compliance, marketing strategies and breach response).
Outside of these secondments he has experience assisting clients implement and adopt privacy programs, as well as integrate new technologies. This includes the assistance provided to a retail chain and their implementation of a new HR solution. Here Richard helped ensure this complied with the requirements of the GDPR.
Richard also has in depth knowledge of the Data Protection Act 2018. He has leveraged this knowledge when advising multiple clients, including a global insurance company, as to the differences between law in the UK and the GDPR. He has also advised clients on projects relating to the Law Enforcement Directive, PECR and the new E-privacy drafts.
