PwC to help charities meet Making Tax Digital deadline

HMRC’s Making Tax Digital for Business programme is rapidly taking shape. The next big deadline for businesses is 1 April 2019.  From this date, taxpayers will need to hold certain information digitally and must submit their VAT return data to HMRC digitally using certified software. Businesses and all other VAT registrants with a turnover above the VAT registration threshold, including those in the charities sector, will need to be ready for this change.

PwC has developed sophisticated software and solutions to help businesses comply with the new requirements and has developed simpler solutions to deal with certain aspects of the rules, most notably the requirement to file the VAT return digitally using certified software.

These simpler solutions will incur a small charge for most taxpayers wishing to adopt them. However, PwC plans to offer free access to this software to charities which may struggle to meet the costs of this new requirement and are, therefore, most in need of support.

The exact details of the offer will be announced in due course but PwC is committed to helping the charitable sector manage the burden of transitioning to the new regime.

"We are committed to helping all taxpayers comply with the new rules. The firm’s breadth of new solutions, including affordable price points and a special offer for charities, is all part of our commitment to help support taxpayers meet their Making Tax Digital obligations."
