Video transcript: Industry leaders speak up

Johan Lundgren CEO - easyJet: Diversity and inclusion is a massive priority for us at easyJet. We need to make sure that individuals can be at their very best. We fundamentally believe that when you get people to work on their strengths, you become better as a collective.

Debbie Hewitt Chair – The Restaurant Group: I am really very conscious of making sure that we are diverse and inclusive in our approach to talent, particularly young people, who I feel are often disadvantaged because they are perceived as not having the right experience.

Keith Barr CEO – InterContinental Hotels Group: We think it’s fundamental to our business that our workforce, from senior management to the frontline, is reflective of the diversity around us.

Emma Woods CEO – wagamama: We want people to bring their whole selves to work, and if they bring their whole selves to work then they will be happier, and then happier teams create better guest satisfaction. And that in turn raises performance. So, it’s part of our cultural DNA.

Diversity and inclusion is massively important to me personally, because I just wouldn’t be here, and wouldn’t be leading a business as a woman with four children.

Keith Barr CEO – InterContinental Hotels Group: I think my success in my career is because of strong leadership from women. I want to make sure that I do my part and IHG does its part to make sure that women can advance their careers as far as possible, especially as a father of two daughters.

Debbie Hewitt Chair – The Restaurant Group: From a diversity and inclusion perspective, my ambition for The Restaurant Group is to make diversity and inclusion just the way we do things around here.

Johan Lundgren CEO - easyJet: The ambition we have that we are focusing on is very much about achieving the Amy Johnson 20% of new intake of new pilots in 2020. Of course, the future ambition is that we don’t need to have those targets, because it’s natural part what we are doing.

Emma Woods CEO - wagamama: The great thing about this initiative, is it forces you when you are sitting on boards and you are having discussions about people, to be more conscious about the diversity choices you are making.

Keith Barr CEO – InterContinental Hotels Group: Because this isn’t a single company issue. This is an industry wide issue.

Debbie Hewitt Chair – The Restaurant Group: I think the fact that we do collaborate, and we will get there much more quickly together than we will in any single individual company.
