What is your job?

As Midlands technology leader within our assurance practice, my role is to help clients use technology, data and analytics to get a deeper understanding of their business and customers, drive efficiencies in their operations and embed automation. We spent a lot of our time building bespoke applications for our clients, which we can host within our own secure data centre as a managed service. This takes the burden away from businesses, so that they can concentrate on making the right business decisions.

What does a typical day look like for you?

Our technology and analytics skills are agnostic of organisation size, industry or region, making every day new and exciting. Broadly speaking, I work with a very talented team of computer programmers and infrastructure experts to deliver complex client solutions to help solve their business problems.

Another very important aspect of my day is researching new emerging technologies to see how we can reimagine the way we deliver our services and propositions. Currently, we are researching and developing prototypes which use Virtual Reality, Machine Learning, Text Analytics and Chatbots.

Technology has also evolved the expectations of people and our clients in profound ways... I really enjoy looking into these shifts and finding new ways in which we can use new technology to enhance and re-invent the way we deliver our client experience.

What is the best thing about your job?

Constantly learning, innovating and being creative to deliver exciting new solutions and services to our clients. Technology moves at a very exciting pace, which means our business needs to be agile and adapt to new advancements within the industry.

Technology has also evolved the expectations of people and our clients in profound ways. Twelve months ago, who would have thought that you would be able to order an item and get a delivery within two hours? Or even better, get your dinner delivered to your house within 30 minutes? I really enjoy looking into these shifts and finding new ways in which we can use new technology to enhance and re-invent the way we deliver our client experience.

How did you get into your job?

I applied for an experienced hire position in the Midlands Data Technology Solutions team following a referral from another colleague. At the time of applying, I was completing my PhD at the University of Birmingham in Computation Mathematics within the School of Mechanical Engineering.

What skills do you need in your job?

A passion for solving complex problems, being innovative with technology and a constant desire (and resilience) to keep learning and developing your skill sets.

What's the best advice you've been given?

Life is too short, so do what you love and love what you do. Imagination should be the centre of your life.
