May 18, 2018

  • Scale | GovTech launches this May in partnership with the London borough of Newham
  • The programme focuses on transforming the public sector through innovation
  • Previous participants in PwC’s Scale programmes have raised over £295 million in equity with companies now valued collectively at over $1bn

PwC and the London Borough of Newham are launching Scale | GovTech, part of a series of scale programmes across the UK which open up PwC’s global network to high potential scale-ups.

Scale | GovTech aims to provide the missing link between fast-growth scale-ups and the public sector to deliver meaningful relationships that drive mutually beneficial commercial opportunities.

The 12-week programme has identified and accepted a cohort of 12 of the best international scale-ups focused on transforming government service delivery, helping them to gain traction, source commercial opportunities and additional funding. The programme introduces the 12 companies to potential customers in local and national government markets, public sector decision makers, investors and thought leaders who can procure, partner, go-to-market, advise or invest in their business.

Dwayne Branch, director of business and growth within the financial sustainability team for London Newham, said:

"We are proud to partner with PwC for the Scale | GovTech Programme. We believe this is an opportunity to change how local authorities work and help Newham become a place where people want to live, work and stay.”

Nigel Howlett, UK digital private business leader at PwC, commented:

“With our huge network and specialist skills, PwC is ideally placed to do this and we’re helping break down the barriers that can prevent collaboration even getting off the ground, whether that’s the inexperience of startups or the complexity of government and the public sector.”

Previous participants in PwC’s scale-up programmes collectively raised £295 million in equity on joining and have since been valued at $1bn, demonstrating rapid progression and quality. As well as investment, the cohorts received 1700 introductions to over 800 relevant executive stakeholders driving commercial opportunities for both parties.
