PwC's industrial manufacturing leader, Cara Haffey, comments on why strong domestic and export demand is vital for UK manufacturing following today's PMI survey.

"It’s encouraging to see a balance of both domestic and export demand driving growth across manufacturing. The importance of a strong level of domestic demand is crucial, particularly given some of the uncertainties that exist around the future shape and terms of export arrangements.

“Equally important is the need for the supply chain to keep pace with the current levels of growth within the sector.

“Investment in capacity is vital to ensure lead times remain competitive and input price rises don't begin to dampen the strong level of momentum that we are seeing in UK manufacturing."
