PwC’s UK and China firms are teaming up to deliver a new Scale | China programme, helping health scale-ups expand into the Chinese market. This is the first of PwC’s Scale programmes to specifically target overseas expansion and will predominantly be based in Shanghai.
In the golden era of UK-China relations it is essential for both countries to forge a closer global partnership, especially in the technology sector. This programme hopes to enable further collaboration, sharing the expertise of PwC’s global network with the scale-ups that take part.
Commenting on the launch, Suwei Jiang, lead partner of PwC UK China business group, said:
“As UK leader of the China Business Group I am particularly excited about the Scale | China programme. Crystallising the work and progress of our respective firms, as well as the suite of services that the UK China Business group offers, the programme will offer companies an informative and experiential way to prepare for China expansion”
The inaugural programme, due to run in January 2019 will focus on the health sector and will offer a cohort of up to 8 companies a combination of market immersion and briefing sessions in Shanghai, visits to large multinationals and other large organisations as well as presentation events to boost new leads and relationships.
Elton Huang, PwC China’s central markets leader and Shanghai office lead partner, commented:
“It comes as no surprise that health is at the centre of China’s public policy. A key way to drive future change in the sector is to learn and engage with innovations and solutions from other markets and territories. On behalf of PwC Shanghai, I look forward to welcoming all of the companies that take part in the first iteration of this exciting initiative”.
Both PwC UK and PwC China have been running successful innovation programmes over the past few years to support cohorts of fast growth companies to access new customers, investment and leverage the PwC network to accelerate growth. Since its launch in 2017, PwC ‘Scale’ has supported over 170 start-ups to grow through various sector/regional focused programmes. These programmes presented opportunities for start-ups to connect with over 1,500 corporate executives to enable over 2,000 introductions.
Nigel Howlett, PwC UK digital private business leader, added:
“We’ve been supporting growth companies for many years, experiencing their challenges and collaborating to achieve their goals. International expansion is a logical next step for companies who are rapidly scaling, so using our global network of firms for the benefit of our clients to drive their ambitions is a crucial way we can offer support. These programmes epitomise what we as a global firm do best - connecting the dots to solve important issues and deliver value for our clients.”
