PwC comments on the IPCC’s Sixth Assessment Report on Mitigation

Commenting on the IPCC’s Sixth Assessment Report (AR) on Mitigation, Emma Cox, global climate leader at PwC, said:

“This latest report from the IPCC highlights the pace and scale of climate action required. It also shows that the tools to reduce emissions exist, but they are not being deployed at the rate we need them to.

“Major economies of the G20 need to commit to and deliver on the Glasgow Climate Pact, which includes bringing 2030 targets in line with the Paris Agreement goals, phasing down of unabated coal power and phasing out inefficient fossil fuel subsidies.

“Such targets provide focus but targets alone cannot avert disaster - only action can do that and we now need to see an acceleration of the measures required to halve emissions by 2030.

“Climate policy and finance will be critical for driving transformative change. Change is only possible if governments enable finance to flow into the areas where mitigation can be most effective.

“Current world events driving energy and food insecurity should serve as a wake up call to governments and businesses to double down on efforts to drive the energy transition and protect our natural environments.”
