PwC has announced the 10 companies selected for the 2020 Scale | FinTech cohort and will now work in collaboration with GrowthBuilders, a startup-corporate collaboration network, to help these businesses unlock innovation across the financial services industry.
Launched four years ago, the Scale programme will connect these fast-growth, product-ready FinTechs with established financial services organisations to curate partnerships and collaboration.
The 2020 cohort was selected from more than 300 applicants and includes a carefully curated set of businesses whose solutions are addressing burning issues across regulatory compliance, data analytics, and payments for the financial services industry today.
The companies will now undertake a 10-week programme, receiving support to help raise their profiles, identify commercial opportunities, and accelerate their growth.
Such collaboration is critical in today’s climate - the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted an urgent need for innovation across the financial services value chain and partnerships with FinTechs will be key to the industry response. As PwC’s recent report, FinTech Deals in Focus, highlights, changes to consumer behaviour and new operational risks resulting from the pandemic will influence where FinTech partnerships develop; the heightened focus on resilience and security and the increased need for operational simplification will bring opportunities for some FinTech solutions, while some payment FinTechs should benefit from the accelerated shift towards a cashless economy.
Having now run 43 Scale Programmes in the UK, working with 428 scale-ups across numerous sectors, PwC’s Scale Programmes consist of three core components to accelerate growth: tapping into PwC’s corporate network that stretches around the globe; exploring opportunities with PwC leaders who work with the leading brands; and upskilling and developing scale-up teams through a world-class business growth curriculum.
The core business curriculum covers topics such as sales and marketing, operational growth, professional readiness, valuations, and leading through growth, and for the FinTech programme this is supplemented with exposure to financial service specialisms.
Mark Leaver, PwC Financial Services Partner and UK FinTech lead, commented:
“FinTechs are increasingly essential to our economy and crucial to future innovation for Financial Services. By bringing together cutting edge technology firms and providing both best practice advice and client networking events, our Scale programme enables high-potential start-ups to accelerate their growth by opening the door to new opportunities. We welcome our FinTech cohort and look forward to working with them."
