Richard Siddall announced as incoming Head of Debt & Capital Advisory at PwC

29 Mar 2022

Richard Siddall is to lead the UK Debt & Capital Advisory (“DCA”) team at PwC, taking over from John Williams, who is retiring in June. Richard has led the Regional DCA practice for the last six years.

The PwC DCA team helps businesses to identify and implement financing solutions that support key strategic objectives. It provides management teams and shareholders with independent advice on financing strategy in order to address a range of objectives, whether that be funding a growth agenda; how to get the best deal when resolving upcoming debt maturities; or accessing alternative sources of liquidity.

Richard Siddall, incoming head of Debt & Capital Advisory and PwC partner, said:

“I’m proud to be taking on the national role working alongside David Godbee and Adam Horey to build on John’s great work over recent years. We have a team with a wealth of experience across corporate lending, private equity and real estate in the UK and Europe. In addition to the team in London we continue to grow our presence in regional offices, ensuring we have people on the ground who know the local community of businesses.

“The debt markets are providing borrowers options from a variety of lender pools. These cover traditional high street and challenger banks, asset-based lenders as well as the private debt fund space, where we are now tracking c.125 debt funds that have raised over €275bn since 2008 and are currently funding over 2,000 businesses across Europe.

“As we move beyond the pandemic many sectors are returning to growth with companies seeking funding to make the most of the opportunities this brings. Whilst other sectors, against a backdrop of market uncertainty, will feel the unwind of government support, supply chain issues and cost inflationary pressures and may require more flexible debt facilities, additional liquidity and/or working capital funding (which may take the form of asset based lending).

“With multiple options available, and increasing complexity in terms of debt structures,  companies are turning to us to help navigate these markets and raise the funding they need.”

John Williams, DCA partner at PwC, added:

“It has been an absolute privilege to lead the DCA team at PwC over the last six years. We have built a team that has great coverage of the entire market, leading expertise across a range of debt products but also market leading technology that allows us to navigate those financing markets effectively for our clients.

“This technology now includes a significant level of ESG-linked funding data as this is, and will continue to be, an increasing area of focus for our clients - with the incredible growth of sustainability linked loans now providing opportunities to mid-market corporates.

“Richard has built an exceptional regional practice and I wish him, and the team, well on the next stage of the journey.”
