Nov 02, 2018

  • Boohoo Group’s Carol Kane wins inaugural tech businesswoman award

  • Other winners include companies and individuals in cyber security, retail and data analytics

During a year in which UK Tech has seen one of its biggest IPOs and had the highest combined deal value of any sector globally1, the industry turned out yesterday evening to celebrate its successes at the annual UK tech awards ceremony in London.

The awards, a joint venture between PwC and Ford Sinclair Ltd in association with Silicon Valley Bank, recognise the efforts of innovative public and private UK tech companies and individuals.

Jass Sarai, UK technology industry leader at PwC, said:

“The UK has such a vibrant technology sector at the moment, highlighted by the sustained strong valuations and record investment levels we’ve seen this year, as well as the 500 nominations we received for these UK tech awards.

“To continue to maintain our strong global leadership position in the industry, we need to remain focused on attracting investment and developing the best talent. Diversity remains a key issue in the UK tech sector and there’s still a long way to go, but we must start by celebrating those who are championing technological change and inspiring the next generation of entrepreneurs and technologists; so special congratulations go to the inaugural winner of our new tech businesswoman of the year award - Carol Kane.”

Phil Cox, head of EMEA and president of Silicon Valley Bank’s UK branch, said:

“This year’s winners are truly impressive and I’m thrilled to see some of our clients and partners represented. The UK tech industry has experienced incredible growth this year, with over $4bn venture capital invested to date in UK tech companies, and IPOs from Farfetch and Funding Circle. With so many positive indicators: new sources of funding and exceptional talent, the continued growth of the tech industry and its notable hubs in the UK such as Manchester, Bristol, Edinburgh and London looks set to continue.”
