There is no denying that this last year has been a particularly challenging one for all of us. The coronavirus pandemic has - of course - had a significant impact on all aspects of our daily lives, and this uncertainty will have created real difficulties for us all.

However, I am also pleased to see some more positive signs going into 2021. There are indications that we are beginning to emerge from this period - with China continuing to report economic growth and the UK recently starting to administer the coronavirus vaccine. And, despite geopolitical headwinds seen across the globe this year, in terms of the trading relationship between our two countries there also remains some cause for optimism: British exports to China surged by 10.7% in the first 8 months of 2020 at the same time as Chinese companies are continuing to invest in and contribute positively to the British economy.

I am heartened by these trends and very much hope that this recovery continues and accelerates into 2021. Our PwC team remains uniquely positioned in the market to help our China inbound and outbound clients to achieve their global ambitions and solve important problems. Do please feel free to get in touch if you would like any support.

And, as a challenging 2020 draws to a close, we do hope that, during this festive season, you are able to spend some time with your loved ones.

From myself and the PwC China Business Group, we wish you all a very happy Christmas period and a wonderful New Year ahead - and we hope that we’ll be able to meet up again with many and most of you again in 2021.

Thank you, and goodbye for now.
