As a firm, we know that having a business which is representative of the diversity of the clients we work with and the communities we live and work in makes business sense. So we’re working hard to actively promote inclusion and diversity in terms of age, disability, gender, LGBT, faith and religion, and race in our business. A key part in making this happen is ensuring we are a more representative employer and that we have people networks within PwC which promote, support and champion this.
There are more than 120 different nationalities in PwC UK and we aim to give our people the skills, commercial knowledge and cultural awareness that we all need to work effectively in an increasingly global marketplace.
“The MBN is a community for all kinds of people to share and celebrate their cultures and backgrounds and the value this brings to business.”
Our Multicultural Business Network (MBN) has three aims: to educate, through cultural and commercial awareness; to engage, through connecting and community engagement; and to empower through career development.
Through its focus on these aims, the network is promoting cultural diversity and helping our people become more culturally agile, while demonstrating the commercial benefits of cultural awareness.
The MBN’s mission is to improve both our internal and external experience when engaging with different cultures through various initiatives, activities and events.
Dara Kirton, a Manager in Consulting, is the Chair of the MBN, and leads a steering committee made up of 10 people who represent a variety of grades, ethnicities and lines of service within our business. The network is also supported at a senior level by having an Executive Board sponsor and five partner sponsors, and is also endorsed by PwC’s Diversity & Inclusion team.
Thanks to this collaborative approach, the network's activities have helped to increase both the awareness and the desire to address issues relating to our Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic (BAME) colleagues. As a priority, they have been helping our people become more comfortable with having uncomfortable conversations.
The Multicultural Business Network was a finalist in the ‘Employee Network Award’ category at the Business in the Community (BITC) Race Equality Awards 2016.
