Adham: My grandparents came over from Pakistan to England during the labour crisis. I went to a state school; at sixth form I studied A level English; History; and Psychology and I come from a working class background.

Rachel: I’ve always worked from a young age; I used to work at Portobello market and I also had a part time job throughout sixth form. I really enjoyed education too so I thought the higher apprentice scheme would be the perfect combination of the two.

Egis: I have first heard about apprenticeships from my friends as a new alternative to university study. I immediately recognised it as a brilliant opportunity for me to do something I’m very passionate about and that is how I came across PwC’s higher apprenticeship programme.

Adham: The first thing that attracted me to PwC was their reputation as a market leader. After that when I did more research into the firm, I felt that the career progression opportunities were great here.

Egis: I have now been working at PwC for close to 3 years which has proven to be an invaluable experience for me. During this time I’ve had the chance to work on a large variety of interesting projects.

Rachel: At PwC I work in consulting. There are a number of different routes you could take in the higher apprentice scheme but consulting was the one that I chose. I currently work in international development in the public sector.

Egis: This is a perfect environment for me because PwC highly encourages personal development and at the same time gives ample opportunities to build more confidence in your own abilities.

Adham: I feel very supported here. We’ve got managers and buddies assigned directly to you to look after your well-being, which when you’re first joining the firm is invaluable to be honest because they really aid the settling in process and make sure you’re comfortable, and if you have any questions you can go to them.

Rachel: It’s been a real invaluable experience, there’s a strong focus on people at PwC. I’ve been able to work with a variety of different people who have been able to share their knowledge and support me with their expertise. As a result I’ve gained a large group of contacts and formed a real brilliant network.
