Employability Skills: aged 13-18

Our Employability Soft Skills Curriculum enables pupils to develop key skills necessary for any working environment through fun and engaging activities.

Sessions are between 45minutes-1hour long.

We have also created some additional guidance for parents/carers on using the toolkit resources at home.

Lessons

Lesson 1: Improving your employability

This lesson is an introduction into the key skills that employers look for using terminology students understand. It encourages the students to consider where they might already use these skills and how they can be translated into the workplace.

Lesson 2: Personal Impact and Brand

This session is designed to give students an insight into what a personal brand is and why it is important. It also explores how students can make a positive impact.

Lesson 3: Being Work Ready

This session is designed to give an insight into the practicalities of the workplace and the professional attitudes, behaviours and expectations that might be expected.

Lesson 4: Professional Communication

This session aims to give students an understanding of how we communicate in the workplace and encourages them to consider various forms of communication and what might be appropriate in different situations.

Lesson 5: Time Management

This session is designed to give students an insight into effective time management and why it is important in the workplace. Students will explore how they can manage their time, considering different strategies including prioritisation and eliminating distractions.

Lesson 6: Creating and Delivering a Presentation

This session gives an insight into how to structure and deliver presentations so they are impactful and engaging. It also gives practical advice on how students can communicate both verbally and non verbally with the audience through tone, body language and eye contact.

Lesson 7: Commercial Awareness

This session will give students an understanding of commercial awareness and how it can be developed. It aims to help students think about how their own values and morals can be translated into the company they work for.

Lesson 8: Recruitment Guidance

This session provides guidance on how to apply for jobs and what students should consider when making applications. This lesson includes advice on writing CVs, cover letters as well as effective interview techniques.
