PwC announces new partner and director promotions

PwC announces further investment in its senior team in the Midlands with the admission of three new partners and 13 newly-promoted directors. The round of partner admissions and promotions sees the professional services firm invest in the next generation of business leaders in the region.

The 13 newly promoted directors across PwC’s Midlands offices in Birmingham, Milton Keynes and the East Midlands are;

Simon Blythin, Harriet Brown,  Ben Connor, Tony Cowpe-Pendleton, Andy Dymond, Gethin Evans, Matthew Greene, Chris Hall, James Hampshire, Vicky Keogh, Mark Kingsbury, James Lewin and Dan Packwood.

Matthew Hammond, Midlands region chairman, said:

“I’m delighted to be welcoming a talented group of new Partners & Directors into our Midlands practice. They bring sector expertise and experience to help our clients with the opportunities and challenges they face.

"We are continually developing the breadth and depth of skills within our practice to meet the changing demands of the Midlands’s economy and business community.  As we navigate our way through the fourth industrial revolution we are investing equally heavily in people and technology delivering leading-edge solutions for our clients.”

In addition to these senior appointments and promotions, 431 PwC employees have been promoted across the Midlands as of 1 July 2019.  There have also been some 710 new recruits in the firm’s last financial year, including 172 new graduates and apprentices, with 31%  black, asian and minority ethnic (BAME) intake and 43% females, creating new routes into professional services and cementing the foundations for the future growth of the business.

Commenting on the Firm’s growth in the Midlands, Matthew Hammond added:

“We now have some 1,900 people based here in Birmingham and by the end of 2021 we expect to realise our ambition conceived in 2017 to create circa 1,000 extra jobs, making our mark and wider contribution to the growth of the Midlands. Our new home at One Chamberlain Square will be home to between 2,200 and 2,300 colleagues.

“We are committed to recruiting local talent including school leavers, young apprentices and graduates. Our technology degree apprenticeship with the University of Birmingham, which is now in its second year of intake, is just one example of how we are breaking down barriers to helping more people, especially females and people from deprived backgrounds, into the Firm and tech-related careers.”

The firm is promoting 69 new equity partners across the UK, a significant increase from 54 last year. Together with 13 direct partner hires recruited during the year, the firm’s total UK partner number is now 944.

This year 38% of the newly promoted Partners are women and the pipeline of women coming through into senior roles is also stronger - 38% of the newly promoted Directors are female. 16% of the new Partners are BAME and 27% are based outside London, as the firm continues to bring a more diverse group of people through into senior positions across the UK.

Laura Hinton, Chief People Officer at PwC UK, said:

“I’m delighted to welcome these outstanding new Partners who are evidence that we are delivering our diversity action plan. The more our people can see role models who look and work like them, the faster we will make PwC a place where anyone can succeed.”
