Reflections on the move to Merchant Square

Kieragh Nelson Managing Director, Operate and Merchant Square Project Lead, PwC United Kingdom

“This has been one of the greatest honours of my career and no doubt will be a highlight when I look back on it in years to come. The anticipation of how it will feel to step foot over that doorway when it is finished is a great motivator and something I really look forward to.

“When we started our Merchant Square journey it was already such an important development for the city of Belfast and now, it’s even more so. We recognise the role we play in the city’s ecosystem and are committed to being there to support all of the people - the entrepreneurs, the baristas and chefs, the waiters and shop assistants - who help to make Belfast the place it is.

“Each time we visit and visibly see the regeneration take place this really strikes home more and more. When we move, we’ll have space for up to 3,000 people and that will have a really positive impact in the local economy, with all of us using surrounding facilities both onsite and offsite for coffees, lunch and a touch of shopping no doubt. I may leave the purse in the office when I go out, especially at Christmas time!

“I’m really proud of our collaborative approach to planning and engagement - the committee is made up of people across all teams and grades, and everyone has a voice when it comes to making decisions. That’s why we’ll be creating a wellbeing space unlike anything we’ve done before in the firm, and partnering with social enterprises and developing collaborative, technological spaces which can be used by community groups as well as our clients. All of these concepts came from our NI reps and have been pushed along admirably from concept to design.

“As much as I can’t wait to be in this destination workspace - which is really going to be like a 5* hotel - what I really look forward to is seeing how our clients and partnerships get to use the space too, with a bit of the wow factor thrown in for good measure. With cutting edge tech running throughout combined with our talented workforce, it offers so much potential for our business to continue to deliver and grow and to make a real difference for ourselves, our clients and our communities.

“Trust me when I say this will be a workspace people want to be, not have to be.”
