Our Northern Ireland purpose

Our purpose is to build trust in society and solve important problems

We’re a hugely diverse business, bound together by this goal. It comes to life in the way we run our business, the way we deploy our unrivalled talent and the way we bring people together to collaborate and find sustainable solutions.

For us, Place & Purpose means playing a leading role in supporting our local communities and improving outcomes for all. It means addressing head-on the most challenging issues and empowering people to find solutions. Our strength comes from the strength of the society around us.

We are focused on six key areas:

  • Inclusive growth - We want to support the economy of Northern Ireland to grow, but to do so in a way that ensures the benefits are distributed fairly across society.
  • Digital skills - We want to support the development of digital skills in Northern Ireland, helping it to become a place with leading edge technical capabilities.
  • Health and wellbeing - We want to help Northern Ireland become a healthier, happier place and support actions that positively impact the wider determinants of health and wellbeing.
  • Net zero - We want to help Northern Ireland to become a low carbon economy and rise to the challenge of becoming net zero.
  • Social mobility - We want to help remove the barriers that people from some sections of society face and open up opportunities for everyone to achieve their potential.
  • Diversity and inclusion - We want Northern Ireland to be known for having a culture of inclusion; one in which diversity is recognised and celebrated.

From our Women in Work Index to our apprenticeship programmes, from our Future of Government series of reports to the social enterprises we work with on projects like Belfast Black Santa and in our new HQ Merchant Square- our Purpose is the foundation upon which everything is built.

“When you realise the breadth of what we do, it’s actually quite radical and transformative. It’s an active commitment to making Northern Ireland work for everyone. The world is changing faster than ever before and the challenge we face to get things right demands a bold response.”
